Congratulations to all women candidates who qualified JEE (Advanced) 2019. IIT Kharagpur welcomes women students to consider joining us. The oldest IIT in the country stands on the site of Hijli detention jail which also has a woman’s cell and reminds us of the sacrifices made by our “foremothers” for the independence we are now enjoying.

IIT Kgp has a large number of programs in different branches of Science and Engineering. Our women students come from all over the country and study in many different branches. Kgp provides them with a stimulating and safe environment and many opportunities to study, to engage in different activities and to develop their personalities and careers.

We have very strong academic programs in many disciplines. We also offer a great deal of flexibility to our students to take minors, micro-specializations, opportunities to get into specialized dual-degree programs and to take specialized courses. We have the largest campus and many activities for our students. Our women's hostels are homes to many smart and compassionate students. IIT Kharagpur offers plenty of opportunities for professional growth. All branches also provide intellectual challenges as well as good job opportunities. . The courses are regularly upgraded and revised and a host of modern electives introduced to address present day engineering problems.

Most of our women students excel in their academic performance and get top placements and offers in top colleges for further studies. Our women students are also very active in different social and technological clubs and societies and they also enjoy good sports facilities. IIT Kgp offer a liberal environment where women have all opportunities to pursue their dreams and flourish.

It was found that in the past many JEE qualified women did not get admission to IITs as they did not fill sufficient choices. This year IITs have introduced supernumerary students for women so as to make available at least 17% of the seats in all courses for women. We strongly encourage you to fill in a large number of choices for different branches in many IITs.  We think that it is a great idea to be benefited from the unique IIT education and experience.
